In 1851 Census he was a gardener lodging at South Park House, Penshurst. In 1871 Census William & Emma were at Wherwell, Hants. with their children Emily & William. In 1881 Census they were at 34 2nd Cross Road, Twickenham. In 1891 Census they were still at Twickenham. His ages given in the Censuses were 25 in 1851, 44 in 1871, 40 in 1881 and 57 in 1891; his Death Registration in 1898 gave 75, which is presumably correct!

Will dated 3.8.1927 proved at London 19.5.1934, probate to George Norris, of Rose Cottage, Treville Street, Roehampton, painter; his bequests were 50 to George Norris and "To Florence Alice Cottrell my Housekeeper everything belonging to me".
