In 1881 Census he was a servant/warehouse keeper to John J Pearson, pawnbroker of 128 Rathbone Street, West Ham, Essex. In 1890 when William George was born he was a pawnbroker's assistant living at 125 Barkworth Road, Camberwell, and in the 1891 Census 7 months later he was still there with his wife & son; when Florence was born in Nov.1891 the family were at 43 Alderminster Rd, Bermondsey, William being a cab driver. The Certificate for Frederick's birth in Feb.1900 shows William as having died by then.

Married 2Q 1891, London C. to George J Jones, son of Sarah Jones, and in 1901 Census George was a fishmonger living at 21 London Street, Greenwich with his wife, their daughter Olive and Phoebe's sister Eliza.
