Inherited Willett's Farm on the death of his father in 1765. In his Will dated 21.9.1783, proved at PCC, London, 26.7.1788 (qv), he left Willett's to his widow Mary and to his son William on her death; other properties in the area were left to William and his sister Jane, immediately or on the death of their mother. In 1775 he was a Churchwarden of St Mary's, Cowden. In the Cowden burial register he was described as "William Peerless Senr. from Bassets".

Unmarried in 1803. Fac.Office Marriage Licence dated 18.4.1825 to marry Obediah Woodhams, widower of Edenbridge, Kent at Lingfield, Surrey, where Jane was then resident. In 1812 Obediah Woodhams was an Executor of the Will of William Durrant, the father-in-law of Jane's brother William Pearless; he was then a farmer of East Grinstead.

His marriage in 1807 was by licence, he of Cowden and Mary of East Grinstead; witnesses were Robt.Args.Durrant and Martha Durrant. Will dated 25.3.1825 with Codicil dated 26.5.1825, proved at London 7.4.1827 with probate to his widow Mary and James Stanford of Haxted, Lingfield, Surrey, with power reserved for Rev.George Mottram of East Grinstead the third Executor; beneficiaries were his widow and, after her death, all his children equally.
