In 1881 Census he and his wife were living at Peabody Bldgs, Lambeth with their unmarried daughter Ann and their grand-daughter Eliza Eleanor Peerless (b.2Q 1875, Newington, Surrey); their son Edward and his wife were then living in another block of Peabody Bldgs, Lambeth.

In 1881 Census he was living at 4 Upper Button Street, Gillingham with his wife and children Annie, George, Edward and William; in 1891 Census at 62 Victoria St, Gillingham with Isabel and sons George & Edward; in 1901 Census at 87 Skinner St, Gillingham with Isabel, sons George & Edward, and Lucy Peerless, Edward's wife and their baby son Edward. When he died in 1924, described as "pensioned joiner HM Dockyard"; his sister E(leanor) Britton was "present at the death".
