In 1874 he was still at Ramsey, but by 1881 he was living at Chevening, Kent with his second wife Harriett; in 1893 and 1896 he lived at Bessels Green, nr.Sevenoaks when appointed Executor of the Wills of his brothers-in-law, John & Henry Pearless. At Ann's death (1870) he was described as a Particular Baptist Minister.

Birth registered at Dr William's Library 18.1.1813. When married in 1852 she was living at 9 Hardres Street, Ramsgate, as was James; witnesses were John, Jane and Mary Pearless and Mary E Hart. In 1861 Census she, her sisters Mary & Jane and her brothers John & Henry were boarding with Phoebe Dawes at 10 Nelson Square, Southwark; all five were described as living on income from funds. In 1867 she witnessed the marriage of her sister Jane at Ramsey, when her husband officiated.
