By 1901 he was widowed, a navvy living with his children Gilbert & Elsie at Hove; his sons Frederick & Ralph were hotel pages in Brighton and Sidney was at a Brighton orphanage. Other children may have been Georgina (b.2Q1882, Uckfield) and Laura (b.1Q1890, Uckfield). ?Died 4Q 1927, Reigate, aged 71.

On 3.1.1921 he arrived at Ellis Island on the "Lapland" from Southampton; he was described as married, residence Crowborough; no other Peerless on board.

In 1913/14 he lived at 11 Golf Avenue, Schenectady, NY where he was visited by his brothers Charles & Sidney. On 9.4.1920 he arrived at Ellis Island from Cherbourg & Southampton, described as "a US citizen and a member of the ship's crew". Later in 1920 he again arrived, a crewmember of the "Philadelphia" from Southampton.

On 13.6.1916 he was appointed to 4th Div.Signals Coy. as a Sapper; after the War he returned to Australia, disembarking 15.1.1919.
