In 1881 he was lodging at Langport, Somerset with Honor Gillett, described as a Solicitor's Managing Clerk. In 1884 when witnessing his brother Austen's Will he was described as "Solicitor, East Grinstead". At his marriage in 1886 he was a "Fishmonger" at Tiverton, Devon; of the three witnesses signing the Register, none was a Pearless. In 1901 Census he was a fish, poultry & ice dealer, living at Tiverton with his wife and children Reginald, Nugent, Mary & William. His brother reginald left him a small legacy in 1905.
