Daughter of Edward Marsh, a butcher. In 1851 Census she was cook to Rev. Douglas, at the Rectory, Ightham, Kent. On 4.11.1851 at Ightham Parish Church Rev.Alexander Douglas, Curate, married her secondly to Richard Dutton of Seal (44 b.Redditch Worcs, widower, labourer, son of Thomas Dutton, labourer) [M. Cert]. In 1861, 1871 & 1881 Census Richard was a farmer living at Frankfield Farm, Seal with Charlotte, his son Thomas (1861) and her son Francis.

In 1851 Census, aged 4 after the death of his father in 1848, he was at an Institution (perhaps an orphanage) at Wanstead, Essex. In 1861 & 1871 Census he was living with his mother and her second husband, Richard Dutton, at Seal, Kent. In 1881 Census he was still at Frankfield Farm, Seal with his mother and step-father, his wife Matilda, who was Richard Dutton's daughter, and their son James.
